Is my website good?

Starting a website is easy, right? Pick a domain name, choose a layout, and you’re in business.

Now the issue is how do people find your website? You have a great product or service and now you need to attract people and convert them into customers.

A good first stop to check the functionality of your website is to visit AHREFS Domain Authority Checker. This is a free service and it gives your website a score from 1-100. This score reflects how AHREF views the authority of your website.

In AHREF’s words, “Website authority” is an SEO concept that refers to the “strength” of a given domain.” Website Authority is basically a way for Google to rate your website. Google wants to deliver the best possible search results and if your website has been linked in other articles, you have a great chance to stand out.

Your second stop needs to be Google’s Lighthouse. Go to the Google Chrome Store and select the Lighthouse Chrome Extension. Once installed, open a new incognito window, paste your website into the address bar, press F12, then run Lighthouse. Make sure you have “mobile” selected instead of desktop.

Lighthouse will begin searching your website. Lighthouse will return five different scores but I only focus on Performance, Best Practices, and SEO.

Performance is how fast your website loads. Best practices makes sure you page is secure and that customers have a good experience. Search Engine Optimization or SEO makes sure your website is using the right words to be found in google search.

Start with these two tools to get an idea of where your website stands. Remember, people have little patience for a slow website and they will go to a competitor. Good luck with your website!
